Silicon Allee was started by a couple of expatriate Berlin-based entrepreneurs. We spent a lot of 2010 in Silicon Valley. If you’ve experienced both the American start up scene and the German start up scene, you know that they couldn’t possibly be more different.
All over the Valley, there are tons of meet ups, new ideas are discussed openly, and most everyone is willing to help you, whether by making connections, offering feedback or just listening to your idea. Everyone seems to be working on something. The atmosphere is exciting and contagious.
We didn’t think Berlin had an adequate platform for start ups to meet, share and get heard. When we decided to create Silicon Allee, we had two goals in mind:
1) Provide a platform for start ups to meet, network and help each other by hosting events in Berlin
2) Provide a platform to write in English about Berlin- and other Germany-based start ups
We hope Silicon Allee becomes a way for start ups in Berlin to connect with each other, to get exposure outside Germany, and for the outside world (investors, users, prospects, etc) to get a glimpse of what’s happening here.
